GRAIN ROT Biomes: Every Underground Region Explained

Three demo biomes taught the loop; two more arrive with the 1.0 launch. What each band of the ruins teaches, what it drops, and how to read a biome transition with no minimap.

How Biomes Work

The underground ruins are procedurally generated within biome rules — layouts reshuffle every descent, but each biome band keeps its own prop density, demolition yield, Corrupted spawn weights, ambient audio and artifact spawn rates. Depth is selected by elevator descent, and depth follows biome transitions: the deeper the band, the richer the loot and the angrier the Rot.

The Three Demo Biomes

1. The Shallow Band — "tutorial adjacency"

2. The Mid Band — "noise discipline test"

3. The Deep Teaser — "pre-launch escalation"

The Two New 1.0 Biomes

The full launch adds two new biomes with new accompanying ambient music. Official names and loot tables weren't published pre-launch — we're verifying them in-game and will list each region's hazards and drops as confirmed. Expect them to extend the deep-layer escalation: denser encounters, stronger Rot pressure, better artifact glow.

Reading Transitions Without a Minimap

There's no traditional minimap in GRAIN ROT — crews navigate by landmark signals:

SignalMeaning
Furniture era/style shiftsLikely biome transition — props change with the region
Music layer changeDepth or biome boundary crossed
Prop density increasesHigher loot, higher noise risk
Audio mix muffles commsYou're deep — rot pressure is rising
Scream frequency rising per minuteEscalation tell; check your extract timer

Progression Curve (Which Biome You Belong In)

  1. Tutorial complete → Shallow band gold loops
  2. Inventory tier two → Mid band noise drills
  3. Stamina + tier three → Deep band attempts
  4. 1.0 content online → new biomes once Elites are on your farm list

Frequently Asked Questions

How many biomes are in GRAIN ROT?

Five total: three in the demo (shallow tutorial band, mid noise-discipline band, deep teaser band) plus two new biomes added in the 1.0 launch with new ambient music.

Are GRAIN ROT maps random?

Layouts are procedurally generated within each biome's rules — prop density, spawn weights and loot rates stay consistent per band while the geometry reshuffles every descent.
